Is it me or this advert barking up the wrong tree?

Posted by Remote Control on May 31, 2007 9:53 PM

Hmmm. Africa. A continent which by its own admission struggles to get on top of Aids.

So the solution should be advertising. Rightly so. Get the message across. But set the advert to Blue and have people putting condoms on umbrellas? Maybe I'm just not in the loop.

Big Brother's best blogger found...

Posted by Remote Control on May 31, 2007 8:51 PM

I've always feared some people take Big Brother too seriously - and when I read blogmate Peter Guy's Big Brother lowdown I thought my worst worries had come true.

Thursday's telly picks

Posted by Remote Control on May 31, 2007 10:48 AM

Everyone has an opinion on transport - it affects all our lives and it's a safe bet most of us don't rate the current systems very highly.

If you are one of those people, then Road Rage Revenge (BBC 3, 9pm) is for you.

Last night: British Soap Awards (ITV 1, 9pm), The Apprentice: You're Fired (BBC2, 10pm), Big Brother Live (E4, ad nauseum)

A cancelled train and the usual inefficent service from staff wearing 'Northern Rail' uniforms meant I missed a large chunk of the arrivals in the Big Brother house (C4, 9pm).

Tonight's telly picks

Posted by Remote Control on May 30, 2007 11:06 AM

It's decided - I'm going to actually give Big Brother (C4, 9pm) a chance.

Ever since it launched back in 1923 (that's certainly how long it feels, even if my numbers are slightly out) I've never really got into it until, perhaps three weeks before the end.

Last night: The F Word

There's something wrong with my Sky box. Every time I leave the room, when I return, it has changed itself over from beaming in BBC 3/Sky Sports/Sky News/E4 to UKTV Food.

My girlfriend, normally in the room, insists she knows not how this happened and continues to pretend not to fully understand how the Sky programme guide works.

The Badger's back (Sky One, 10pm)

Posted by Remote Control on May 29, 2007 7:44 AM

From badger watching last night on Springwatch, to Badgerbaiting tonight.

Ruth Badger, the real winner of the Apprentice - perhaps not being picked as the winner of the last series is the best thing which ever happened to her - is an absolute star in the current series on Sky One.

Last night: Springwatch (BBC1, 8pm)

In a day and age where nature programmes allow us to see sharks deep in sea, polar bears tumbling down ice caps and jungle creatures at home in the depths of the Amazon rainforests, there's something quite quaint about Springwatch.

Yet you can't help but get excited when presenters Kate Humble and Bill Oddie revel in delight at spotting a deer on one of their many cameras, as it settles down for a drink near the river.

Awards success for Hollyoaks

Posted by Remote Control on May 28, 2007 9:43 AM

About a week ago, I lamented the fact that no-one seems to take Hollyoaks seriously.

Sure, it might have started out as a bit of a fluffy teen soap, but it has graduated into a fully-fledged drama since then.

Monday's telly picks

Posted by Remote Control on May 28, 2007 3:27 AM

I'm sorry. I really am. I know I should stop telling you about great documentaries on telly every night, but seeing as it is a bank holiday, can I have one last go? Then I promise I'll do something else.

Though, to be honest, Power to the People (BBC 2, 9pm) has felt more like a random edition of a Dom Joly spoof in recent weeks than a bone fide documentary which aims to swing the balance on big issues.

Last night: Filty rich and Homeless (BBC 3)

Posted by Remote Control on May 28, 2007 12:18 AM

Forget those who carp on about how channels like BBC 3 and BBC 4 are a poor waste of the licence fee.

Yes, they seem to show every programme about nine times to fill the hours, but by God, some of the programmes are cracking entertainment.

Tell me what you're watching!

Posted by Remote Control on May 26, 2007 9:43 AM

Please tell me what you're watching, and what you're enjoying (or not) and what you're looking forward to - so we all can too!

Tonight: Time to get cultured

Posted by Remote Control on May 26, 2007 9:33 AM

Programmes which talk about doing 'culture' tend to lose my interest because they often become just a bit too broad in their remit.

But the Culture Show (BBC 2, 7.15pm) appears to be making a virtue of such a broad brush.
