Aren't panel quiz shows great?
Posted by Remote Control on June 30, 2007 11:06 AM
It finally seems to be happening. TV producers have cottoned on to a genre of show which is cheap to make and which people won't get bored of.
Yes, hopefully the reality TV genre is going to die quietly, while all attention is placed on: TV quiz panel shows.
Friday's telly picks (with video)

tHE name Jason Manford may ring a bell, particularly if you know the Liverpool comedy circuity at all.
He's a rather witty Manc who has become very popular in the city - and will probably repeat that nationwide thanks to his latest gig, as one of the stars of 8 out of 10 Cats (C4 9.30pm)
Thursday's telly choices: My Name Is Earl/Scrubs/True Kiss Dare - all with video

THE problem with dramas, particularly ones which come in several parts, is that you have to stick with the first episode, not draw too much from it and just hope the hour you've invested in learning about the characters is worth it.
I reckon that True Dare Kiss (BBC 1, 9pm) will prove to be one of those ones worth investing in.
Tuesday night: Joanna Lumley's back (with video)

MY quest to find a sitcom which is a) British, b) worth watching and c) not relegated to BBC 3 tonight involves an encounter with Joanna Lumley as a 60-year-old who has recently become a widow.
So far, so bad. But maybe that's what happens with the best sitcoms: they can't be summed up in a simple one-liner. There's much more to them. A case in point: The Brittas Empire.
Monday night's telly: Tony Blair and Hollyoaks (with video)
Posted by me on June 25, 2007 12:33 AM
IT'S official - Tony's going. And even if you had only returned from a year's break on Mars this morning, you'd soon realise Mr Blair was vacating 10 Downing Street - as soon as you look at tonight's TV schedules.
First out of the blocks is Channel 4 with its The Rise and Fall of Tony Blair (8pm), which carries on from the first installment on Saturday night. Now, while talking-head documentaries, of which is one, are normally bobbins, largely because of the talking heads used, this is certainly the exception. Condoleezza Rice, Jack Straw, David Blunkett, Peter Mandelson and Lord Ashdown are among the politicians on there - but perhaps most impressive of all is the number of former civil servants who appear on the show.
TV PREVIEW: Dalziel and Pascoe / Coronation Street (with video)

Wow! When did Dalziel and Pascoe get so very dark?
It wasn't that long ago that, although the death count in Wetherton was quite high, it was still, you know, a place where most people died normally.
TONIGHT: Mary, Queen of Shops and others (with video)

It must be a tough time to be in the advice trade at the moment. People don't need to pay for advice any more, they just have to be happy to air their problems in public and they'll get all the advice they need, for free, from experts on the telly.
That's particularly the case in the business sector. If it's not Ruth Badger running around on Sky One, it's Mary, Queen of Shops (BBC 2, 9pm)
Wednesday's picks: Too much choice (with vid)
Posted by Remote Control on June 20, 2007 10:49 AM
WHERE to be at 9pm today? Easy question - in front of the telly. The harder question is: What the hell to watch?
Not because there's nothing on, but because there's too much on. Although we can discount BBC1's Traffic Cops series - after all, we've seen it all before.
Tuesday's pick: Tycoon (ITV 1, 9pm)
Posted by Remote Control on June 19, 2007 1:11 PM
In hindsight, it seems a logical step. Take two successful BBC formats, The Apprentice and Dragons' Den, mix them together into a hybrid reality TV show, and what what you got? Tycoon (ITV 1, 9pm).
Self-made millionaire Peter Jones, who is one of the Dragons on the BBC 2 business-cum-car-crash-telly show, finds six would-be entrepreneurs and helps them start businesses. But whereas as Dragons Den ends where the money is handed over, Tycoon only really begins after that point.
Monday night: Comedy and Drama (with videoes)

The voiceover on the trailer for The Time Of Your Life (ITV 1, 9pm) makes the statement: Imagine not realising George Michael was Gay (having gone into a coma in the 1980s and only woken up in 2007).
Now, I wasn't really old enough to appreciate 80s music at the time, but if I was, I like to think it's a safe bet that I might have had an inkling long before he did indeed, come out.
Britain's Got Paul Potts - and Piers on the beatbox (with video)
Posted by Remote Control on June 18, 2007 12:26 AM
Britain's Got Talent picked its winner last night. In the haze of an early-evening hangover thanks to my Godson's christening earlier in the day, I feared that Britain was going to get Bessie.
In fact, at one point I was sure of it. Just how can anyone vote for a one-girl sing-a-long-a-musical act? If I'm honest, I wasn't mad keen on Paul Potts either.
