The voiceover on the trailer for The Time Of Your Life (ITV 1, 9pm) makes the statement: Imagine not realising George Michael was Gay (having gone into a coma in the 1980s and only woken up in 2007).
Now, I wasn't really old enough to appreciate 80s music at the time, but if I was, I like to think it's a safe bet that I might have had an inkling long before he did indeed, come out.
But the sentence sums up the gist of ITV's new six-part drama. It's all about 36-year-old Kate, who has spent half her life in a coma. Of course, when she wakes up, the world has moved on, only she hasn't.
Her parents are now like her grandfolks, her friends have highflying careers, and, oh yes, her boyfriend is now a 30-something married to someone else.
At this point, the writers could have veered off and made a light-hearted 'look how different the world is' drama, but they don't. They get lead part Kate to explore exactly why she went into a coma - and why it is people aren't so keen to give her the details.
The summer of decent drama continues.... while over on BBC 3, the policy of bringing through new comedy sketch talent is paying dividends with
Touch me, I'm Karen Taylor (BBC 3, 10.30pm).
To quote the BBC blurb "Co-written by and starring BAFTA-winning comedian, Karen Taylor, this fresh new sketch show offers a raunchy look at modern life – as seen through Karen's own irreverent and lascivious eyes."
In all honesty, it is a bit hit and miss, but then so is Little Britain. The clip I've grabbed is from episode three, on next week, but tonight's episode two, is worth checking into too.
