And so the voting gets worse (with video)

Meet Craig, he's in baton twirling. No, I have no idea why, either.

What I also don't understand is why, having kept his hobby a secret to avoid ribbing by his friends, he chose to then audition for Britain's Got Talent. But I'm bloody glad he did, because he was excellent. Baton twirling may not be my idea of an entertaining night out, but he knows his stuff.

On Britain's Got Talent last night, we saw Craig strutting his stuff in the semi-finals (one of three, don't you know). The producers must of thought they were in heaven when Craig rolled up. Great story to tell, nervous as hell before in rehersals, dropping his baton in practice, blubbin to the cameras about how this means so much to him.

But he put on a great show in the semi-finals. Tragically, however, the Great British public voted for a little girl called Bessie, who must be all of eight but has still 'dreamed all my life about being in the West End' to go through to the final.

I know Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan have difficulty saying mean things about child acts, but I don't. I'm not sure she could actually sing. I didn't particularly enjoy a child doing a Mary Poppins routine on stage, but somehow, the British public did.

So Craig and Kombat Breakers, a rather impressive urban male dance outfit, went head-to-head as the judges decided who to put through. Kombat Breakers won. Admittedly, their performance was more spectacular, but Craig had a real story behind his journey. And to have made the Royal Variety Performance would have completed that story. Instead, he doesn't even make the final. But Bessie does. And at the final, perhaps we could make up for our mistakes and make sure something original wins?

If you haven't got a clue about what I'm rabbiting on about, have a look at this rather nifty video edit of some of the highlights from the audition. Then kick yourself for not staying in to watch it.

The third semi final (!) is on at 7.45pm tonight.
