Wednesday: Time to feel good about your family (with video)
And the 'we thought it, you said it' award goes to: David Platt, of Coronation Street, Weatherfield, for this magical line:
Gail (on hearing her son is telling all and sundry that he isn't sitting any more GCSEs): "I've never felt more humiliated in my whole life."
David: "Well, you haven't got a very long memory, have you?"
Let's be honest, he did have a point. His mother, after all, is the woman who married a murderer, became a grandmum when her 12-year-old daughter got up the duff, has had cat fights in the street with most of her female neighbours and who seems to be disowned by at least one member of her family once a year. Oh yes, and who didn't seem to realise that when her son Nicky went to America, he seemed to come back a completely different man!
Anyway, in the current void of top-level action and drama on the Corrie cobbles, it's fallen to Gail to try and create some drama by making her wayward son sit his GCSEs. He set fire to his exam paper on Monday, and rattles out some more fantastic lines tonight (ITv1 7.30pm)
But, sadly, David's character is proof that it doesn't matter how good the lines are, you have to be quite a good actor to pull them off. With his sneer on his face at everything his mother says, I think I'm supposed to hate David. Or want to punch him. But instead I want to laugh at him, and also question why he's suddenly sporting such a super sun tan. There's been no mention of him going on holiday while he's supposed to have been revising. Surely Gail's not missed him going off for a fortnight in the Costas?
Continuing the 'perhaps my family aren't so bad after all' theme tonight is Britney: Off The Rails on Channel 4pm at 10pm. It's a documentary on the now bald popstar who epitomises the car crash life style. Expect plenty of dirt as it explores Britney's life and relationship with the media, husband(s) and her family. Oh yes.
