Wow! When did Dalziel and Pascoe get so very dark?
It wasn't that long ago that, although the death count in Wetherton was quite high, it was still, you know, a place where most people died normally.
Not any more. Last month we had Richard E Grant and a group of devil worshippers seeing people off, this month it's all vampires and torture.
Tonight (BBC 1, 9pm) sees the conclusion of this latest double header. This one is called Under Dark Stars. Grumpy Dalziel and the increasingly midlife-crisis Pascoe last night found themselves having to deal with a serial killer who appears to be draining his victims of blood before they die.
The bodycount is rising, but at the same time they are dealing with the fallout of a not guilty verdict in a double-child murder. Last night, while Dalziel was going on Crimewatch to appeal for help. Pascoe found himself at a garage where a relative of the kids killed in the double-child murder had used his breakdown recovery vehicle to torture the man who got off with it. When the non-convict as let down, he was then stabbed to death by the relative of the dead kids. Tellingly, Pascoe then assisted him in getting away. Will he be found out for what he did?
That's what we'll find out tonight - and unusually, it will be Dalziel who will have to decide if he can trust his partner in crimefighting, not the other way round. It's all great stuff, but I do fear we're having to suspend belief more and more with each episode that passes.
Which makes Dalziel and Pascoe more and more like
Coronation Street (ITV 1, 7.30pm) each and every time it is on - although D&P lacks the increasing comedy legend that is David Platt.
The troublesome teen has managed to remind his mum that she's a walking disaster zone, set fire to his exam paper and left his brother-in-law stuck on top of a roof in the space of a week. As teenage rebels go, he has no equal.
Tonight, David returns to his job at the builder’s yard but shows up late, annoying Bill. But he follows orders and for a while Gail is delighted.
However, Bill and Jason return to the yard to find David sawing up good timber. Will he get into trouble yet again? I think the answer is yes.
Elsewhere, Leanne tells Janice she’s found a firm who will lend her the £6,000 to buy the restaurant, but it looks a bit dodgy. And Janice is surprised to get a call from Roger, who has returned from France and wants to meet up.
Finally, Claire is livid when the police let Casey go and is still convinced she was responsible for the fire.
Steve mentions that Casey was in the cab office and Claire makes him give her Casey’s address. Accompanied by Ashley, Claire heads over to confront the mysterious woman, but is made to look totally irrational.
Will Ashley think his wife is losing it again? I think the question should be: Why did he start believing she was sane again?
