I've seen Daniel Corbett on the telly twice today. Both times he seemed to be really enjoying himself. Which seeing as he is a weatherman on the BBC informing us that flash floods, heavy rain and strong winds are likely across the UK on Friday, must make him a bit odd.
In fact, without sounding old, weathermen aren't as good as they used to be, are they? They aren't characters, are they? Perhaps it's because there are so many of them - thanks to rolling news.
The ones we do have all appear to go for the same thing - super pally, determined to be a mate in your living room. Which is quite a hard act to pull off when they're telling us our homes are about to be hit by flooding rivers.
And the ones who do try to be characters, like Daniel, just seem odd. He doesn't just point and poke at his weather map, he caresses it and runs his hands over it in a way which suggests he's inviting mainland UK to split from Northern Ireland and spend the night with him instead.
I feel a cockroach in the studio would liven things up. In fact, that's what happened in America recently and the results are hilarious.
