The REAL BBC outrage (and there's video too!)
Never in the history of the universe has there been an organisation quite so ready to whip itself in public than the BBC.
A good 40% of last night's News At Ten was given over to the fact that they 'wrongly edited' some footage of her maj to make it look as though she'd stropped off out of a photo shoot.
What they'd done was accidentially shown a clip of her grumbling as she walked into the shoot after a little strop she threw during the shoot - making it look as though she'd had a tantrum.
Let's face facts. She's the Queen. She should know she lives a life more than fit for a, er, Queen, and should be grumbling to chucking her weight around anyway.
But it seems to be a trend at the BBC now - if they do something wrong they want to strip off, bare that soul and beg for our forgiveness.
Sadly, the mighty Corp doesn't see anything wrong in showing a repeat of admittedly a quite good cop drama at 9pm on a Friday - arguably one of the prime time slots of week.
So it's an old showing of New Tricks as their plum offering tonight - further proof they Beeb isn;'t sure what to do with the slot when Have I Got News For You isn't around (previously proved by sticking nostalgic drama Lilies out of position there then dropping it when 'only' four milion watched it.)
ITV 1 isn't much better. Midsomer Murders. Two Hours. Repeat. Again.
But there are a couple of bright sparks tonight. The Alastair Campbell Diaries (BBC 2, 8pm) has been riveting so far this week, and tonight's episode deals with the war in Iraq. There's almost an irony to the fact the man who pushed the BBC into whipping itself in public over the David Kelly affair is getting prime-time slots in a week when the BBC is once again beating itself up over something it actually did get wrong.
And over on Channel 4, it's 8 out 10 Cats (9.30pm), possibly one of the funniest programmes on telly at the moment.. Actor Alan Cumming guests on the irreverent panel show hosted by Jimmy Carr. Teams captained by Sean Lock and Jason Manford answer questions based on opinion polls carried out around the country to see who best understands what is going on in Britain today.
Clickhere to see the best bits so far. Message to BBC: That's the sort of programme to show on a Friday evenin.
