THERE are some TV clip shows which feel as though they have been designed just to fill 30 minutes of telly at short notice. Yes Chris Tarrant, I'm talking about the one fronted by you.
There are others, however, which actually look as if a bit of thought has gone into them to make them a little different, and worth watching.
TV Heaven, Telly Hell (C4, 11.05pm) falls into the latter category.
The fact it features comedian Sean Lock is a good start. A true star on Eight out of Ten Cats, which sadly ended its run on Friday night, Lock made TV Heaven... very watchable in its first season, one of the best clips from which is linked to above.
The idea is simple, it is rather like Room 101, the Paul Merton 'let's have a go at all the things we hate' vehicle, only just for TV programmes.
And who better as the guest for the first in the new series than career grump Jack Dee, who has done a great job wondering through the archives. He finds footage of Brian Blessed terrorising old women in hospital in City Hospital, and Cliff Richard attempting to starting a fight with Princess Anne in It's a Royal Knockout.
It's on a bit late, but if you can't stay up, Sky plus it. Well worth doing a series link on this one.
Also tonight:
Have I Got Old New For You (BBC2, 10pm): A current affairs quiz shouldn't work when it's old, but it does. Jack Dee presents, which might explain why it is so goof.
The Time Of Your Life (ITV 1, 9pm): The drama of the 30-something woman who wakes up from a 20-year coma ends tonight. It's been good in parts, but dragged on a bit, and failed to address the fact that if you lie in a bed for two decades, you wouldn't be able to jump out of bed as soon as you wake up. But hey, miracles happen, and perhaps Kate will get to find out what happened the night she suffered that knockout - even if she doesn't want to.
