What the dragons did next

Posted by Remote Control on July 18, 2007 5:46 PM |

I normally dismiss the 'what happened next programmes' at the end of a reality TV series as quick spacefilling aimed at squeezing an extra programme out of an already squeezed format.

But tonight there is one which is different - Dragons' Den: Where are they now? (BBC 2, 8pm) is actually quite informative. Assuming, of course, it's true, what with it being on the Beeb and all that.

Ok, so that quip was a bit harsh, but it's also a bit true. One of the things which annoys me about the BBC is when they seek to deceive by describing a news story as 'exclusive' or use the immortal phrase 'the BBC has learnt' which normally translates as 'we've just read in the paper.'

But Dragon's Den doesn't involve stroppy royals, sexed up dossiers or phone lines. Fools/brave entrepreneurs go before the dragons and hope to get cash. Tonight, we find out how some of the successful ones did and how some of the unsuccessful ones got on too.

We see Brixton based Levi Roots who serenaded the Dragons and left the Den with an investment in his Reggae Reggae Sauce (you'll see his sauces in Sainsburys, so he's done well), Peter Ashley who had designed a multi-gym that doubles as an armchair, Denise Hutton who impressed Duncan Bannatyne with her Razzamataz theatre schools and with Peter Ensinger and David Baker who made Dragons Den history when they convinced all five of the multi-millionaires to invest in their Standby Saver.

Also featured are Ling Valentine who braved the Den with her contract car hire business and Mike Carr who wanted an investment in his Drive Safe Glove, designed to remind drivers which side of the road to drive on.

As midweek 'summer' catch-up shows go, it's one of the better ones.
