When rolling news goes wrong.

Posted by Remote Control on July 12, 2007 12:09 AM |

Imagine the scene. It's a quiet Saturday afternoon down at BBC News 24, and suddenly reports come through of a car going into the front of Glasgow Airport.

Peter Sissons is on air, so a safe pair of hands there, then? Maybe not.

Highlights include: Sissons asking the eyewitness: Is the jeep being treated as suspicious? What sort of explosion was it - the sort you get with a bomb or with petrol? The man then just disappears, but not before telling us that: "the car was on fire, it had smoke inside it too."

Genius. It's what rolling news was made for. Not a fact in sight.
