The IT Crowd - TV got funny again
Posted by Remote Control on August 31, 2007 5:49 PM
I'm a bit slow, sometimes, when it comes to getting on to 'next big thing' things on telly - hence why I'm glued to Heroes on a Wednesday night on BBC 2 rather than doing the whole 'oh yeah, saw it on Sci Fi Channel first.' I suppose it means I'm not part of the it crowd.
Comedy gold discovered on YouTube

Perhaps this is the sort of thing I should be leaving to our Geek Chic blogger but he's not here, and it's a bank holiday, so who cares?
I think I've found the best use ever for YouTube - YMCA covers. If you thought the original was random in the extreme, you ain't seen nothing yet. And for anyone who is at the Mathew Street Festival this weekend, the Chinese Beatles haven't got anything on this lot.
News 24 makes me laugh (with video)

I was gutted when Virgin Media binned off Sky News. For some reason, we get cable in the office, not Sky, so we were left with News 24.
Now, News 24 isn't bad, it's just that it, well, lacks the glamour and edge of Sky News, in my opinion (although Peter Sissons is always a treat on a Saturday afternoon when he comes out with comments such as 'now, you don't see that [a burning jeep] at Glasgow Airport every day."
Three cheers for Jeff Stelling

UP until last season, I spent most Saturdays at either Preston North End's football ground or at the football ground Preston were playing away at.
Crime against reality
Posted by Remote Control on August 22, 2007 4:38 PM
Darlo Dean, texting in to today’s Daily Star, asks the paper to show a picture of Fiona Bruce, commenting: "Did anyone else see how cracking her legs were on Crimewatch?"
The paper obliged, but I have to admit it wasn’t Fiona’s legs which struck me during Crimewatch on Monday – I was more bothered about the way it’s veering from factual, public-service offering to crime-fuelled docu-drama.
X is back!

WHEN it comes to those programmes which claim to be out hunting for the next big thing, DanceX has proved that it's possible for the format to be utter crap.
For weeks now, the BBC has been trying to excite us with this random dance-off involving two judges from one, or more, of its other dancey programmes, not of which were as bad as this.
Laughing at myself

Ever have one of those days which you know is never going to end? And because it's never going to end, sitting down in front of the television and watching "Mock the Week" (BBC 2, 9pm), simply isn't going to happen.
But that's where I want to be, and that's my punt for the night. But at least
Tonight's telly: Cracker takes on the Heroes
Posted by Remote Control on August 15, 2007 12:26 AM
It would probably be wholly inappropriate for me to go big on Heroes (BBC 2,9pm) again. After all, what’s the point of reading a blog if you already know what it’s going to back?
When did Holby get good (with video)
Posted by me on August 14, 2007 12:24 AM
I’m normally quite quick to dismiss Holby City (BBC1, 8pm) , largely due to the shocking performances recently displayed in its sibling programme, Casualty, since it won a Bafta.
Real cooking, for real people. Honest
Posted by me on August 13, 2007 12:55 AM
The idea of another cookery programme on the telly should fill me with dread. It doesn't matter if it's Jamie Oliver, Delia Smith or Nigella Lawson, to the rank and file baked bean brigade (to which most of us, if we're honest, belong) they all serve one hidden purpose: to remind us that we can't cook. Properly.
Time to Mock the Week and laugh all night (with video)
Posted by Remote Control on August 9, 2007 8:30 AM
At last, I can turn on the telly at 9pm tonight for Mock the Week (BBC 2) without that nagging feeling that I really should see out True Dare Kiss on BBC 1.
Perhaps the grass is greener on the other side - certainly the channel idents are - but tonight I shall find out. Yes, Mock the Week is back on in my house.
Why Rupert won't be back on the breakfast sofa for a bit
Posted by Remote Control on August 8, 2007 8:42 AM
Rupert Everett shouldn't be a particularly controversial guest on BBC Breakfast, especially when talking about the delights of the rural cinema.
Only when he starts talking about what you should do when at the cinema, does it suddenly enter very dangerous terriotory.
Watch for Suzanna Reid's face and Charlie Stayt's jaw reaction...
Plugs galore on BBC 1
Posted by Remote Control on August 6, 2007 11:36 AM
If the BBC re-named the 8.30am until 9.15am slot of BBC Breakfast 'The Lots of Plugs For Future Programmes Programme,' it'd be laughed off the schedules within days.
But instead, as people seeking continued news coverage are diverted off to News 24, those of us left behind get an extra half hour of plug interviews mascerading as news content.
From Hollyoaks to Heroes

Well, our favourite soap has caused quite a stir hasn't it? I am, of course, referring to Hollyoaks (Channel 4, 6.30pm, E4 7p
