Ashamed about Shameless

Posted by Remote Control on January 1, 2008 4:21 PM |

Ashamed as I am to admit it, I'm only a very recent conver to Shameless, so when people say the last series wasn't as good as previous ones, I haven't a clue.

It's one of those programmes which, once it's been on Channel 4, is repeatedly repeated over on E4, and it was during one insomniac session in front of the box that I found it.

Yes it's crude, yes it's rude, yes it follows the sort of family which most of us hope never to come into contact with, other than perhaps if we're watching a live recording of Jeremy Kyle. But you can see why it has won awards.

And it's back tonight (Channel 4, 10pm). And the wonderful one liners continue. "Make poevery history ... cheaper drugs now" is an early line from Vernon Gallagher. Bascially, Shameless does what it does best. Lots of fighting, lots of drinking, and all set round the Chatsworth Estate.

Lip visits from university and walks into girl trouble straight away, while Lillian is running a business involving 'neices.' Imagine.

Everyone's saying it won't be as good as earlier series, but when it comes to that argument, I'm probably as ignorant as the Gallaghers.

One to miss: Three Men in Another Boat (8.10pm, BBC 2,): Much as I think Dara O'Briain is great, not even he can save a programme which involves him, along with Rory McGrath, being lectured on how to use a boat by Griff Rhys Jones.
