Brains does Snap - the top five alternatives
Posted by Remote Control on May 28, 2008 10:48 PM
Everyone got very excited by the new Cadbury's advert, the one which followed on from the infamous "Is that Phil Collins in a gorilla costume?" gorilla advert.
I, for one, didn't really get the whole "lets get various airport vehicles racing up the runway" idea. Was it supposed to suggest what went on at an airport after hours? I suspect the real truth involves hundreds of delayed passengers, a Flyglobespan flight being diverted elsewhere because it's too late to land and rich pickings for dodgy baggage handlers after they "find" some left luggage.
So who gets the crown for best viral video now? Set forward Drench, a new bottled water, who got Brains from Thunderbirds to dance for 90 seconds to Snap. Does it make me want to buy bottled water? Probably not. If I want water, I'll turn on a tap, unless I'm in a country with unsafe tap water, in which case I'll drink beer. But it is hilariously funny, and needless to say it's spawned several spin-offs on YouTube. Here's our top 6, starting with the original...
Perhaps the weirdest comment to ever be left on a TV blog?

Got this message on my blog the other day:
Eurovision: Time to go, time to go
Posted by Remote Control on May 26, 2008 3:54 PM
TO set the record straight from the off, I've never watched Eurovision from beginning to end. If people are honest, I suspect that places me in the majority. Normally, I'll watch (some of) the acts and a bit of the voting, until I'm sure that the idea of political voting is once again coming to the fore.
Until last year, I always thought the idea of political voting was a mere figment of the imaginations among those of us from the traditional big hitter countries which hadn't won.
Not any more. Friday's 10 O'Clock news on BBC 1 actually did a news report looking at the political voting (shock = eastern bloc votes for eastern bloc and so on) but came to the conclusion that countries which had high level of outward-bound migrants - such as Turkey or Poland - did well because these migrants then took part in the phone votes in their new countries.
This week's television treats

It's that time of the week again - time to sit in front of the Sky+ box and make sure all the televisual highlights over the next seven days get recorded. No excuses now, not even the fact the sun is shining gives you a get out for missing these programmes....
Comedy awards turn ITV into a joke
Posted by Remote Control on May 9, 2008 10:34 PM
Much gnashing of teeth in the press today over ITV's deceit towards viewers. You know the script by now. You thought you were ringing up to vote for something or to take part in a competition and either the votes weren't counted or they had already picked the person who was going to take part in the competition.
Personally, as a rule, I feel that if you're daft enough to think ITV really wanted to let you win £50,000 on one of its naff overnight quiz shows then you deserve to be taken for a ride. And as for voting on programmes, if it really meant so much to do, would you have left it to the last minute anyway?
Nightwatch goes off the rails in Leeds
Posted by Remote Control on May 2, 2008 7:00 PM
I was about to blog about Jeremy Vine being made to wear a cowboy's outfit and wave a fake gun in the BBC News Channel studio on election night, but there are, in fact, more foul crimes being committed by journalists in the name of TV entertainment.
Step forward Steve Scott with his Nightwatch programme, which is either in a constant state of production or is, like Jeremy Kyle and Homes Under The Hammer, on constant repeat.
Nightwatch, for those new to this blog, is a) a programme I thoroughly enjoy taking the mickey out of but b) have only watched twice so far. Imagine one of those Jame Theakston-narrated tv-cameras-following-the-emergency-services-style programmes but without a) Jamie Theakston and b) any entertaining emergency services people.
