World's best adverts
The world's worst advert
Posted by Remote Control on July 23, 2008 11:26 PM
That Craig Doyle chap, he's annoying isn't he? First of all, he pops up on the BBC freebie show Holiday, each week showing the nation holidays which can only be afforded by people who don't tend to watch holiday programmes.
Then, when that gravy train comes to its final destination, he's suddenly doing sport over on ITV after working within BBC Sport. If ever you needed another reason to groan at the thought of sport on ITV (think showing adverts during the vital moment which cost Lewis Hamilton the F1 title last season), here it is.
Brains does Snap - the top five alternatives
Posted by Remote Control on May 28, 2008 10:48 PM
Everyone got very excited by the new Cadbury's advert, the one which followed on from the infamous "Is that Phil Collins in a gorilla costume?" gorilla advert.
I, for one, didn't really get the whole "lets get various airport vehicles racing up the runway" idea. Was it supposed to suggest what went on at an airport after hours? I suspect the real truth involves hundreds of delayed passengers, a Flyglobespan flight being diverted elsewhere because it's too late to land and rich pickings for dodgy baggage handlers after they "find" some left luggage.
So who gets the crown for best viral video now? Set forward Drench, a new bottled water, who got Brains from Thunderbirds to dance for 90 seconds to Snap. Does it make me want to buy bottled water? Probably not. If I want water, I'll turn on a tap, unless I'm in a country with unsafe tap water, in which case I'll drink beer. But it is hilariously funny, and needless to say it's spawned several spin-offs on YouTube. Here's our top 6, starting with the original...
Monkey's back and he's Facebooked your mum

So, Monkey's back - perhaps Johnny Vegas was short of cash - and advertising PG Tips once again.
I first saw the ad on Sunday, and laughed very hard at the t-shirt slogan Monkey was wearing.
It reads: "I've Facebooked your mum."
Teletext and the talking cats

I've never really understood how you were supposed to use Teletext holidays. I tried, once, to book a cheap week away in Lanzarote, but the page with the deal I wanted kept skipping past, and when it did actually appear on screen and I'd managed to get through to the travel operator, the deal had gone.
Pepsi makes sure Justin Timberlake takes a good beating
Posted by Remote Control on February 3, 2008 11:39 PM
Justin Timberlake taking a battering? Repeatedly thrown against a wall? Chucked into the street? Damaged by a fire hydrant?
It might only be in a commercial (and therefore not real) but in the battle of Pepsi v Coca Cola, it's the boys in blue getting my vote...
Christmas Advert of the year 2007: The Snowman

The Irn Bru advert with the Snowman in it - hilarious, but I shall not be buying Irn Bru because of it.
Spice Girls kill Christmas
Posted by Remote Control on December 15, 2007 6:17 PM
The other week, I put on this blog one of the best Christmas adverts ever, the Coca-cola Christmas Bear advert.
Then I put the Toys R Us one on, largely because it reminded me a) of Christmas when I was little and b) working at Toys R Us at Christmas in my teens.
Another Great Christmas Advert

It's one of those adverts which always makes me think of Christmas. It used to be a fond memory, then I worked at the place...
It's Christmas!

I'm not sure how Coca-Cola came to be an integral part of Christmas, but it doesn't feel like Christmas without their adverts.
Here's a couple I found on YouTube, both of a similar vein, and I'm pretty certain I've watched their advert on the telly already.
It's the Cadbury Gorilla top 10 remixes!

LAST MONTH, Cadbury's new Phil Collins Gorilla advert went into the World's Best Adverts section on Remote Control.
As viral adverts go, it's been huge - the downside being that it has propelled Phil Collins's 'In the Air Tonight' back into the Top 20 for the first time in a couple of decades.
Colour like no other?

It's been watched millions of times on the telly, has become so viral that in every other sense of the word it would require a vaccine and is arguably one of the most creative adverts on the box at the moment.
I'm talking about the newSony Bravia advert. Using Playdoh to create bunnies dancing around a city is great to watch. But does it make you want to buy their television sets? Or am I missing the point?
A gorilla, Phil Collins and a drum kit
Posted by Remote Control on September 9, 2007 3:41 PM
I've just witnessed one of those 'everything stops' moments.
You know the ones - where something happens and everyone stops and stares.
It involves a gorilla, Phil Collins and a drum kit. It's the best ad on telly at the moment. Enjoy.
Carlsberg: The world's favourite spoof
Posted by Remote Control on July 27, 2007 11:07 PM
Rather like Chris Tarrant, only without a massive cheque for my work which will actually have been done by a large team of researchers, I've gone into the 'collect and show adverts from around the world business.'
Is that your final answer? Or is that the wrong show? And did I mention most of these would be spoofs?
Anyway, first up is everybody's day-before-pay-day beer: Carlsberg
